My (finance) job market advice
Economist
93a9So I wrote this note when I was on the market, and then posted it on my web-site. This was a rash decision --> I should have written more papers. It still lives on the web and people sometime tell me they use it, so I decided to update it with my eight extra years of insights. I am posting this here because now is the time to plan ahead for the next job market season:

p.s. This post is (shameless) self-promotion. Yes, I scan EJMR from time to time and try to extract the 3% true info out of it. Yes, the advice in there is subjective. If you're gonna troll, try to be original.

99ddFrom last page:
"Make sure to diversify by not putting everything in this process. Even if you
end up professionally great, you will still have missed 73% of the fun in life."
How did you come up with that number? LOL :DOk, I read it all. It is a good guide, with a couple of typos here and there. Overall, good job and good advice!
You will also get a lot of downloads from EJMR so that might boost your SSRN rank which is not bad at all!

93a9^^ Not really cheating on my SRRN:
"We have accepted your paper to appear in the "Other Papers" section of your Author Page, which is where submissions that are not full scholarly research papers (including submissions such as data tables, summary book reviews, opinion, advocacy and satirical papers) are displayed as per SSRN policy. It will not be searchable by the SSRN eLibrary search engine but will be searchable by public search engines, and you may share the URL."I know I have typos and poor English but couldn't justify spending money out of my meager research budget to copy-edit this.

99ddNo, you are not cheating. I just said you will get many downloads from EJMR. That's all!
